Business department staff at Penketh High School in Warrington took part in the making of a film about credit and debit and spending responsibly to be shown in school assemblies. The engaging and entertaining film features interviews with students from the school talking about where their money comes from and how they spend it.

The film also presents some financial data specific to the location of the school, for example on house prices, average income and how young people spend their pocket money. The data is presented in colourful charts, and is easily accessible for all ages and ability levels.

video_frame_2 The next part of the film shows a young member of staff acting in a role play about his monthly salary to show the various compulsory payments he must make each month and the choices he must make about how to spend what is left over. Other members of staff play a taxman, an NHS representative and a pensions collector to illustrate how these payments are not optional.

Finally, an interactive multiple choice money quiz asks students to answer questions to find out what kind of spender they are.

The film fulfilled the criteria of the awards by involving the whole school, being innovative in its approach, and by making PFE not only fun and engaging but also informative, and relevant to the students and their lives.
