At Ridgeway High School, every year group completes a scheme of work that highlights personal finance, enterprise or work. As a Business and Enterprise College the school is committed to providing students with the life skills they will need when they leave school.

A number of related annual and termly events are held at the school, including My Money Week, assemblies, competitions and finance lessons and workshops across a number of subjects including languages. There are various other innovative ways in which financial capability is covered, through extra-curricular activities, enrichment days and week-long projects. The theme for the most recent Year 10 Creative and Enterprise project was ‘Working with senior citizens’ where young people worked to develop relationships with their local community. Students complete evaluations after each activity and these have shown how much they enjoy the activities and gain experience in skills such as costing products. The impact of the school’s work on financial awareness is evident around the school, in displays showing students’ participation in activities and the products that they make and sell.

Ridgeway High School impressed the judges with its whole-school approach, involving every year group, and with its commitment to raising standards in PFE.
