Trinity High School, Renfrewshire
Runner up, 2009
School award for best all-round approach to PFE
Trinity High School’s approach to PFE is thoroughly embedded throughout all school years, starting with their entry into the school where they are invited to become members of the school credit union, run by senior students. This was set up in partnership with the Renfrewshire wide credit union (RWCU), who provide training in all areas of finance for the senior volunteers. Alongside this, a range of engaging activities are run across the different school years, covering topics such as saving, the stock market and business. These include:
- S2 students participating in a programme called ‘The Real Game’, which encourages them to become aware of future careers, income tax, mortgages, savings and expenditure.
- S3 students take part in the Stock Market Challenge event
- Off-timetable ‘enterprise and financial awareness day’
- Business partnerships – speakers from RBS and the Financial Education Partnership
- S5 and 6 students interested in a career in the financial industry can volunteer for training provided by RWCU
- The Stewart Ivory Foundation (a foundation set up to further financial education in Scotland) deliver a programme of financial education to prepare senior students for life at University or living independently.
The judges felt this programme was sustainable and made good use of external agencies to bring PFE to life for the students.
