New Line Learning Academy is situated in an area recognised as having significant levels of deprivation across a broad range of issues. Their PFE project focuses on increasing the financial competencies and awareness of families. This is done by engaging school children in basic skill acquisition and using them as the channel to raise awareness within their homes. It also equips the children to make better informed decisions when dealing with their own budgets in the future.

The project has received positive feedback from parents so far and the school now has plans to extend it to nearby areas, sharing good practice and offering support and training. The project is being carried forward by students who are trained by the school and who are assisting with project delivery and planning in primary schools.

This programme showed an interesting approach that crosses secondary and primary phases and reaches out into students’ homes.
