In collaboration with Learning and Teaching Scotland, Sgoil a’ Bhac Primary 7 and Secondary 1 Gaelic Medium Education pupils  produced a DVD of five scenarios highlighting aspects of personal finance relevant to their age. The DVD is to be distributed nationally to all Gaelic Medium Schools, both primary and secondary, as a teaching tool for personal finance education. Pupils worked with an external, professional scriptwriter to produce the scenarios. These were: Borrowing and friendship, The love of money (Lottery), Store card debt, Real value and Save or spend.

While working on the project, the pupils formed partnerships with local shops and offices and a local guest house where filming took place.  In addition to promoting best practice in PFE, the project provided pupils with rich experiences in a range of soft skills including teamwork, script-writing, speaking to camera, drama, working with adults and organising venues and schedules. Sgoil a’ Bhac plan to use the DVD to encourage pupils to take more responsibility for developing their soft skills, transfer the skills learnt in the project to other areas of learning, raise awareness of both the financial and health and well-being implications of tobacco, and to encourage pupils to make more informed choices in relation to careers and the workplace.

The judges praised this programme for its emphasis on pupil voice, and strong links to Literacy, Health and Drama, featuring scenarios that are highly relevant to pupils’ lives.
