Jessica Evans, Plymouth College, Devon
Runner up, 2010
Student award - secondary
Jessica started the Sixth form at Plymouth College with a limited understanding of financial literacy and 18 months later had come second in the RBS / Financial Mail on Sunday’s Junior Apprentice Competition for her board game ‘Financial Footprints’. This game has helped to make finance lessons more fun, especially for younger years. She also led the college’s student investor team ‘Ladies Go Long’ which made a 35% return on their portfolio in just 6 months and was the managing director of a winning Young Enterprise company. Jessica has gained a Certificate and Diploma in Financial Studies and this has inspired her to explore the subject further. She hopes to study Management at university and, in the future, to be a business mentor to young students, encouraging them to develop their own financial literacy. Her endeavours have given her a greater understanding of business and banking and the importance of managing her own money.
The judges found Jessica to be an inspiration to others at her school, was highly self-motivated, and would like to use her knowledge of PFE to mentor younger students in future.
