Lubna Suleyman, Trinity High School, Renfrewshire
Runner up, 2010
Student award - secondary
Lubna has been instrumental in helping to establish Trinity High School’s credit union Junior Saver’s Scheme and has taken responsibility for marketing, promotion and administration of the initiative. Promotion included visiting classes and giving presentations about the benefits of the credit union and the school now has one of the largest memberships of students signed up to the credit union in the area. She has worked closely with the credit union staff to ensure the on-going success of the initiative and has made a positive contribution both to her school and also to associated primary schools where credit unions have also been set up. Her skills were recognised through the provision of an extended work experience placement at the credit union office where she trained as a teller. Lubna represented the school as a speaker at a financial education training event for teachers hosted by RBS in Glasgow.
Her involvement has benefited Trinity High School, other schools and the local community and has taught students about the importance of saving and the value of money. Lubna is keen to ensure the sustainability of the project by providing training for future student helpers and creating a programme of presentations for new secondary students.
Lubna proved to be a great ambassador for PFE, having an impact on her peers and helping to change attitudes and behaviours.
