Claire Todd-O’Neill, Seaham School, County Durham
Runner up, 2009
Teacher award
Claire Todd-O’Neill was nominated by her colleague in recognition of her work to improve the provision of financial awareness in the school. This involved developing a series of relevant and engaging PFE lessons to be delivered through Maths and Personal and Social Education. She also developed and led a number of departmental workshops to train colleagues to deliver these. She then gathered feedback from students to feed in to the development of next year’s programme.
In future she hopes to develop the programme by bringing in members of the local community to talk to students about the financial decisions they have made and the impact they have had on their lives and also to extend her work across other curriculum areas.
This entry was an example of good quality teaching that showed educational rigour and made an effort to be relevant and engaging. The judges were particularly impressed by Claire’s work on budgeting.
